Google Play closed testing:12 testers, 14 days
To release an app from a personal developer account, you first need to pass a closed test. Here is who it applies to, how to run it, and what Google asks when you apply for production.
1. Who it applies to
Personal developer accounts created after November 13, 2023. It applies per app, so every new app needs its own closed test. Organization accounts are exempt.
2. The requirement
- At least 12 testers must opt in to your closed test.
- Those testers must stay opted in for at least 14 consecutive days.
- Testers who opt out before 14 days don’t count.
3. Step by step
- 1
Create a closed testing track
In Play Console, go to Testing › Closed testing and create a track.
- 2
Add testers
On the Testers tab, create an email list and add your testers’ Google emails.
- 3
Upload and roll out a build
Upload your app bundle (AAB) and roll it out to the closed track. The first review can take a few days.
- 4
Share the opt-in link
Send testers the track’s opt-in link (play.google.com/apps/testing/your.package).
- 5
Keep it going for 14 days
Testers tap “Become a tester” and install the app; 14 days count from then.
4. Applying for production access
Once you meet the requirement, apply for production access from the Play Console dashboard. The form has three parts.
- Your closed test — how you recruited testers, a summary of their feedback, and how you collected it
- Your app — its target audience and the value it offers
- Production readiness — why you believe the app is ready
Reviews usually finish within 7 days. With fewer than 12 testers or too little engagement, Google may ask you to keep testing.
5. Tips to avoid rejection
- Recruit around 15 testers to allow for dropouts.
- Make sure testers actually use the app; installs with no usage can look like poor engagement.
- Collect feedback and note what you changed because of it — you’ll need it for the form.
- Check that your app complies with all Google Play policies before applying.
6. Doing it with ZeroBase Lab
- 1
Add your app
Post your app for 200P and recruit for 7 days.
- 2
Copy emails & select
Copy all applicant emails at once, paste them into your Play Console tester list, and select them.
- 3
Daily logging
Testers open the app daily with one tap and leave feedback. Great feedback earns +10P (owner pick) and +50P (admin pick).
- 4
Use the feedback in your form
Copy all collected feedback and use it for the feedback summary in your production application.

FAQ
Who needs the 12 testers for 14 days closed test?
Personal Google Play developer accounts created after November 13, 2023. Organization accounts and older personal accounts are exempt.
Do I need to do it for every app?
Yes. The requirement is per app, so each new app needs its own closed test with 12 testers for 14 days before production.
How do I earn and spend points?
You get 500P on sign-up, 200P for completing a 14-day test, and 10P per daily check-in (streak bonuses up to 500P). Posting an app costs 200P, plus 20P per tester application.
When do I get my deposit back?
Applying holds 50P as a deposit. It is returned if you are rejected or cancel before selection, or when you complete 14 days. If you quit after being selected, it goes to the app owner.
What if I miss a day?
No penalty. Google only requires that you stay opted in, so the test completes automatically 14 days after you start. Still, opening the app daily shows owners your engagement, and low usage can get a production application rejected, so please use it often.
Who sees my email?
Only the owners of apps you apply to. They use it solely to add you to their Play Console tester list.
What if I can’t reach 12 testers?
Recruiting runs 7 days and can be extended once by 7 days. If it ends without selecting anyone, the 200P posting fee is refunded. Aim for about 15 testers to allow for dropouts.
Is feedback required?
It’s optional, but great feedback is rewarded. After a test ends, feedback picked by the owner earns 10P, and feedback picked by the admin earns an extra 50P. Owners can paste the collected feedback straight into their production application.
What kind of feedback gets rewarded?
Specific feedback. Describe which screen, what you did, what went wrong, what felt awkward and how it could be better. That genuinely helps owners and is far more likely to be picked.
Is this affiliated with Google? Is approval guaranteed?
No. ZeroBase Lab is independent and not affiliated with Google. Production approval depends on Google’s review.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Contact › Delete account and type your email. Close any recruiting apps and cancel ongoing tests first.
